Cricut,Cuttlebug and Cartridges

Have Cricut.....Now What?

My wonderful husband (with a little help from me) bought me a Cricut Expressions and some cartridges for Christmas. I played around with it a little over Christmas break and then it was put away until I had time to use it again. Teaching kindergarten, preparing for a graduation and party and life in general took up my time and the Cricut had to wait for Summer Break.
For the first time in years, I am not taking classes, working on my Master's, teaching summer school or running kids around. So, I have a lot of free time. As soon as I could, I got out ALL of the materials I had been purchasing to use with the Cricut. Paper, cartridges, vinyl, material, and any of the scrapbook materials that had been put away for a few years. I was all set to go. I walked to my table, sat in the chair, and ... had no idea what to do next. I turned to the manual (the manual is inadequate) and the DVD that came with it. Still, I was not getting any ideas or inspiration. After a couple days of procrastination, I decided to go to the internet.
I stumbled around the big wide web and googled everything I could think that would be related to the Cricut (cricut, cricut ideas, cricut in the classroom...). And, then, I remembered "You Tube!" and there I discovered LOTS of videos made by very creative fellow crafters. I watched some and the ideas began to form. I stumbled across videos by The Pink Stamper. Her videos have been the most helpful to get me started with the Cricut.
So, now I have the cricut, paper, supplies AND ideas! I now LOVE the cricut and have decided to document my journey so that others who are stuck and looking for ideas can learn along with me.

First Project

I decided that making cards would be the easiest way to learn how to use the Cricut. I picked out one cartridge and stuck with it so I could learn how all the features on that cartridge worked. I chose the Paper Pups cartridge and began the Cricut journey.

With this one project, I learned how to use the markers, the difference between blackout and shadow and how to emboss with a cuttlebug (which I decided I needed after watching videos and then went out and purchased one from JoAnn's). I am going to add a stamp in the bottom right hand corner, but not until I decided who I am giving it to and the occasion.

More Cards

I kept working with the Paper Pups cartridge and I went "to the dogs".

You can see close-ups of each card on the slide show on the bottom of the page.
